About Us
The Yoruba BC Multipurpose Community Cooperative Society was founded on the principles of self-help, mutual support, and community empowerment. Our mission is to create a sustainable platform for Yorubas in British Columbia to pool resources, share knowledge, and collectively improve their economic and social well-being. By joining forces, we can achieve far more than we ever could alone, whether it’s through investment opportunities, community projects, or simply building a stronger, more supportive network for all.
Our cooperative is governed by a transparent and democratic structure as follows:
- General Assembly of Members with Ultimate authority
Board of Directors: Elected body responsible for strategic direction and oversight
Management Committee: Appointed by the Board, responsible for daily operations
Sub-Committees/Teams: Composed of members, carry out specific tasks and projects
Operational base is within British Columbia with our administrative and communication channels being primarily online and through community meetings.
We are a registered and incorporated multipurpose cooperative society in British Columbia, Canada. This means we are a member-owned and member-controlled organization. Our primary activities include:
- Financial Services: Providing a safe and accessible way for members to save and invest together.
- Economic Development: Exploring and executing collective business ventures and investment opportunities to generate returns for our members.
- Community Support: Organizing events, workshops, and support systems to help members integrate and thrive in their new environment.
- Cultural Preservation: Promoting and celebrating the rich Yoruba culture and heritage through various initiatives.
